SCHOLARSHIP & DONATION PROGRAM
Fifty years ago we left Franklin after having been provided opportunities to learn, grow and mature.  Today, the same process continues and the present day students seek much of the same experiences and opportunities we were after then.  Recently, the Reunion Committee contacted Crystal Powell, a Vice Principal, at Franklin, and asked her in what way might the 1960 Alumni contribute to the school.  She suggested two programs that would benefit the students which accept donations.

The first program is one which grants scholarships to Franklin graduates who go on to college.  The Franklin Educational Foundation started its mission of awarding scholarships to college bound graduates in 1962.  The Foundation has awarded 100% of the donations it has received in scholarships.  The Foundation expects to award $100,000 in scholarships next Spring.  The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization and donations to it are tax-deductible.  The Foundation sends letters of acknowledgment to its donors.  Donations can be made by check payable to "Franklin Educational Foundation" and mailed to, Franklin Educational Foundation, c/o Benjamin Franklin High School College Office,820 N. Avenue 54, Los Angeles, CA 90042.

Another program is the Franklin Donation Account which the Principal oversees.  Donations to this account have been used to pay for items such as awards plaques, academic achievement jackets and materials for making mural like banners used at sports events.  Contributions to the Franklin Donations Account can be made by checks made payable to "Franklin High School Student Body" with a note indicating the contribution is for the "Donation Account" and mailed to the school, Benjamin Franklin High School, 820 N. Avenue 54, Los Angeles, CA 90042.

At the reunion, those of you who would like to do so can make a check payable to Sandy Baker Justus, and she will see that checks from the Classes of 1960 Reunion bank account will be sent to the Educational Foundation and to the Franklin High School Student Body account.  Indicate the preferred account in the memo line on you check.  There will also be an opportunity to donate cash. Donations to these accounts from the Classes of 1960 will be acknowledged on the Franklin website, and our own website.  We can make a difference in the life of a Franklin student by participating in these programs!
