After attending Metropolitan College of Business, I went to work for United California Bank in downtown LA. After my wedding, we lived in Carson, California and I have been happily married for 47 years. My husband worked with Internal Revenue Service and his job moved us to Puerto Rico in 1974.  We live in a town called Aguadilla, 90 miles Northwest of San Juan; our home is located in what used to be Ramey Air Force Base. We have three grown sons, one recently married, two still single; no grandchildren; we have six cats and one dog. My husband’s job has taken us to Hawaii, Mexico and South America. My husband is now retired from the IRS after 42 years of service but I still continue to work. I work with Kindergarten children at a Department of Defense School and love my job. Most of our family is still living in California; my mother and sister still live in the Glendale area. I do Zumba 4 days a week, and walk 1 mile every morning before going to work because I love to eat. I still miss California very much and still own a house there. But have not been back in 5 years. I wish I could attend the reunion and want to wish you all the best and hope you have tons of fun dancing and reminiscing. Oh, and don’t forget the tacos! Have some for me!

I graduated from UCLA in 1964 with a degree in music. I started teaching for Los Angeles Unified in 1965 teaching music, French, and English. In 1976 I moved to Iran to teach English to Iranian Air Force officers, and became a biker-chick while there. After returning to the U.S., I lived in Texas for a while, then came back to California, enrolled at C.S.U.N. and got another degree in French, and later a certificate in teaching English as a Second Language.  I went to work for Ma Bell, and met my first husband, Sam Canale.  He died before our first anniversary.
Returning to LAUSD, I taught middle school Music, French, and English, and in the meantime, played the cello professionally.  I retired in 2004 to become a full time musician.
I met my second husband, Ed Acosta, playing in the same string quartet together.  We now play music all the time, preferably for money! You can find our trio at www.weplay4u.vpweb.com.
Besides playing the cello, I love to travel, kayak, swim, paint, take pictures.
A memorable moment: My sister, Vivien (W’63) and I, were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard in Morro Bay, CA in 2008. It made all the local Central California papers, complete with photos.

Since graduating, I joined the Navy and went to Vietnam. I was aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga where I was an aviation electrician, Second Class.  After serving in the war, I came home and went to Pasadena Playhouse and then served in an apprenticeship for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).
I then moved to Las Vegas and became an electrical contractor where my main customer was the Dunes Hotel.  I met Jack Klugman in 1977 in Las Vegas and started working on Quincy in 1978 and 1979. Jack introduced me to his thoroughbred horses, and Jaklin Klugman. I went to the Kentucky Derby with Jaklin Klugman as an assistant trainer where he ran third! And then we went on to run in the Preakness and he ran fourth!  After that wonderful experience I decided to become a horse trainer full time.  I sold my $2 million dollar electrical contracting business and spent the next four years learning about horses.   I passed my California Trainers test in 1984, and have been a trainer/owner/breeder for the past 26 years. During this time, I still have dabbled in acting as I have made dozens of commercials and worked in 4 movies the latest being Seabiscuit. Right now I am involved in the HBO series Luck to air in January 2011 staring Nick Nolte and Dustin Hoffman.
I have four boys by my first marriage and have a very special relationship with my youngest, Loren, and my daughter-in-law, Sherry, and my grandson, Chase. I am a newlywed having found a very special lady and my soul mate two years ago. We’ve been married now a year!  She is a Civil Engineer and a General Contractor, and also an excellent rider and dressage competitor riding her andalusian stallion, Khan. I have truly found happiness in the latter years of my life.

I agree with all of you...how could 50 years have passed and I don't look a day older!  What a shock it was when my Mom took out my high school gym shorts and my class sweater from her ancient storage pile...my grandkids got a big kick out of how tiny Grandma used to be.  And now, I just look like any old grandma who's worked hard and eaten lots for many years!

Looking forward to seeing everyone in October.  Geri and Mary will be there with me (even though they haven't done a profile yet!).
We're all excited to be participating in all of the events, all weekend...so be sure to reward our hardworking committee by showing up and giving them a big pat on the back for a job well done...

Oh, yeah, I forgot...still working, still own the business, still living in Atascadero, and still don't have the foggiest idea how to use my cell phone for anything more than making and taking calls.  My enthusiasm level for technology is absolutely zero.  For the life of me, I cannot imagine why anyone would be the least bit interested in reading about me on Facebook or Tweeter or Godzilla or whatever!  And, I promise not to go online and view anyone else's information, too!  I'll NEVER retire if that's what's in store for me!!!!

See ya in October and you can tell me how ancient I am!!!

Upon graduating, I went to a Jr. college for 2 years and then got a job at a bank.  I hated it!  So, I went back to school and took some classes relating to law.  I then got a job at a law office and worked my way up to a Para-legal.  Loved it!  LaBron and I were married in 1965 and I continued to work at the law office while he worked and continued his education.  We lived in Highland Park a few years before moving to La Crescenta and traveled to places like Hawaii, Jijo and Hong Kong.  We had one daughter in 1982 and settled down to raise her.  I quit my job and joined everything I could at her schools, volunteering in classrooms, joining and running for offices in the PTA, etc.  As she got older, we traveled some more.  Took a river cruise in Europe.  Started in Amsterdam and traveled across Holland, through Germany, part of Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia and ended at Budapest, Hungary.  We explored many cities in each country.  Really had a great time.  Also, took a cruise to Puerto Villarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.
Our daughter is now 28.  No grandchildren yet, but we’re hoping soon.
Now looking forward to retiring to our property on the Oregon coast and doing some more traveling.

As a husband, father and business owner, John Chuck has enjoyed both personal and professional success, with a long and happy marriage and a prosperous business career that each span over forty years. Though he has worked hard for all he’s accomplished, John credits his achievements to a handful of mentors who recognized his potential and who took the time to draw it out of him, starting as far back as his junior year in high school.
Alan Sherry, the woodshop teacher, first saw the potential in John, teaching him Stage Craft and making him the Stage Manager in the 11th and 12th grades.  He saw a future for John that John didn’t see for himself, and recommended that John join the Technical Theatre Program at LA City College.  Following this advice, John enrolled in the two-year program, where he came under the tutelage of Barry McGee, a hard-nosed educator. Barry taught John discipline and instilled in him an excellent work ethic. At the end of the program, McGee secured an interview for John at Olesen, one of the oldest Hollywood lighting companies. John started work at Olesen only two days after graduating from LACC.  At Olesen John met Stuart Romans, a successful businessman and an excellent professional role model.  Stu took the time to teach John about good business, setting him on a path that shaped the rest of his life.
Over the next 45 years, John realized the potential that his mentors had seen in him.  Beginning in 1962, he successfully launched the lighting rental business for Olesen, securing his position with the company.  Drafted in 1964, John served in the Army until 1966, during which time he met his wife, Lysbeth Burgess.  They married in April of 1966 and returned to Los Angeles and John’s job at Olesen.  In 1969, only seven years after starting his career , John was named president of Olesen. That same year,  he and Lys had their first child, Steven.  Their daughter Mara was born a year later. In 1977, John left Olesem to co-found Theater Vision Inc., a Los Angeles-area staging and lighting company that was his first venture as a business owner and the start of a lifetime of entrepreneurial success.  In 1991 John formed Entertainment Lighting Services, the company that he now owns and presides over as President and CEO.

John, Lys, and their boxer dog Lily, currently reside in Studio City, spending weekends at their second home, an avocado ranch in Carpinteria. Steven and Mara have both married, giving their parents five beautiful grandchildren.  John enjoys playing golf and spending time in Carpenteria, where he has a woodshop and an organic garden and frequently helps Lys in her letterpress print shop, Carp’ Diem Press.  John still loves working with his hands, still enjoys the opera and live theatre, and often thinks of those three special mentors who helped define his path.
